Individual Successes
Students are celebrating some fantastic individual results including Johanna Bekele. Johanna has been a student at Harris Science Academy East London since Year 7 and was there when the school joined the Harris Federation. Today she has achieved seven grade 9s, one grade 8 and one grade 7.
Johanna said:
Since the school joined the Harris Federation, our teachers' expectations of what we can all achieve have gone up massively. Our teachers have really encouraged us to aim high and have given us so much support as we prepared for our exams. They were happy to help at all times and their doors were always open so we could pop in and ask for extra support.
I am so happy with my results and can't wait to celebrate. It is so satisfying to see all my hard work pay off and to feel that the many, many hours of revision were worth it. My parents have been incredibly supportive but always told me that it didn't matter what grades I achieved. They just wanted me to build my knowledge and enjoy learning.
I am excited to go to college and study Computer Science and Mathematics. Whilst I have loved being at Harris Science Academy East London, I am looking forward to a shorter journey to school and to meeting new people.
Also celebrating today is Henrykh Kolobau who came to the UK two years ago from Belarus and immediately launched into his GCSE courses. Whilst he already spoke English, he did not have the same foundations in subjects such as English Literature or History and had to work very hard to get to grips with these subjects. Today Henrykh achieved six grade 9s, one grade 8 and three grade 6s.

“Coming to the UK has not been easy but my teachers at Harris Science Academy East London have been very supportive. Every single teacher took the time to get to know me and helped me whenever I was struggling. They gave me extra lessons and lots of very helpful feedback so I felt prepared for my exams.
The school community has been very friendly and welcoming and I really like how all the students help each other. I will miss the Academy but I am excited to go to college and start a new adventure.
When my parents brought my young sister and me to the UK, they were in search of a better life for us. I am really pleased to have been able to make my parents proud and I look forward to continuing to build a life for us all here.”
Other students celebrating today are:
- Identical twins Zaide and Zaaron Hamill who together have achieved seven grade 9s, four grade 8s, three grade 7s and three grade 6s;
- Hamna Parvin who achieved five grade 9s, three grade 8s and one grade 7;
- Kakon Roy who achieved five grade 9s, four grade 8s and one grade 7.

We are absolutely delighted with these results which are testament to the hard work and dedication of students and staff at HSAEL. I am pleased that the Academy has sustained its rapid transformation and is enabling students to secure the qualifications they need to become leaders in whatever they choose to do. We look forward to welcoming many of our Year 11 students back to our growing Sixth Form and supporting them in their next phase.
