Our 23 Mini Marathon runners. Four were competing in the Championships for Newham Borough, with Romeu achieving a fast 9m 28sec on the 2.6km course. The rest ran in the 2.6km or 1 mile event and all enjoyed being cheered on by the crowds outside Buckingham Palace! pic.twitter.com/8ThtIVlHqd

Easter greetings. Students returned from their break yesterday in time for Earth Day and St George's Day and cleverly decided to combine both. So here's the winning entry of our Earth Day poster competition, plus students' poem which was read out yesterday. Edited by Amelija, Y10 pic.twitter.com/RDbtA17xzg

Harris Experience

For our most able students we offer a bespoke and targeted enrichment programme to further develop their cultural capital. We work closely with colleagues in the Harris Federation who plan and deliver a programme of opportunities throughout the course of the academic year. As part of our careers programme these students also receive internal support and guidance from our most able lead.

To discuss further please contact our Most Able lead, Mr Anderson: info@harrisscienceastlondon.org.uk

Year 9 – Harris Experience

https://www.harrisfederation.org.uk/63/harris-experience

We recognise that first generation university students and especially those eligible for the pupil premium need specific guidance tailored to their needs. As a result, we identify the top Most Able learners from a disadvantaged background in year 9 to take part in the excellent Harris Experience program. This exposes students to a wealth of high-end academic and cultural experiences, ranging from world class art auctioneering with Christie’s Auctioneers to a trip to the Royal Opera House; from a day of Science in Action at Imperial College London to a bespoke day of lectures at Oxford University.

Within our own Academy, our Harris Experience students are taught to think independently through masterclasses, to express themselves effectively and to embrace learning for its own sake as well as to start the process of understanding their individual academic pathways.

Year 10 – Harris Scholars

https://www.harrisfederation.org.uk/63/harris-experience

In year 10 we identify Most Able learners to be part of the Harris Scholars program. They get access to masterclasses delivered at school throughout the year, as well as trips to Harris Westminster Sixth form and Cambridge University. They each have an expert mentor in a subject that they are interested in studying at University.

Year 12 and 13 – Harris Experience Advanced

https://www.harrissixthform.org.uk/220/harris-experience-advanced

We also take part in Harris Experience Advanced, a Russell Group application programme providing expert guidance and individually-tailored academic opportunities for our most able sixth formers. The programme is aimed at students who have achieved outstanding grades at GCSE or who prove themselves to be making outstanding academic progress early in Year 12 and maintain this throughout their two years in the sixth form. For our Harris Experience Advanced cohort, we also organise workshops and trips extra to those provided by the Harris Federation depending on their A Levels.
