Welcome to HSAEL Sixth Form

Welcome to the Harris Science Academy East London Sixth Form. Our aim is to create the scientists and engineers of the future. We are delighted that you are considering pursuing Sixth Form study at our school. We will aim to provide you with all the tools needed for success, whether you are interested in computer science, medicine or any other academic specialism.

HSAEL has a vibrant and fast-growing Sixth Form. Cohorts in recent years have left to study subjects from physics to computer science at some of the best universities in the country. Our core offer remains Mathematics and the Sciences, but we also have students excelling in subjects as diverse as History, Economics and Philosophy. All of our students are ambitious and work hard to achieve their goals.

Harris Science 071

Science subjects are taught in specialist laboratories with a strong emphasis on experimental work. Our team of teachers are experts in their subjects and inspire students with their deep understanding of the subject.

We expect all our pupils to study A-level mathematics. Mathematics is the language of science and success in this subject means our students will succeed in whatever they choose to do in higher education. We offer Further Mathematics for those who relish the challenge and want to aim at top universities in the sciences and engineering or who want to study mathematics at university.

Apart from mathematics, all students must choose one science subject. Our students begin the academic year studying four subjects, with the majority concentrating on the Sciences including Computer Science. However, two of their options are an open choice, and some choose to study arts and humanities subjects alongside the sciences.

Ambition and hard work are the keys to success at HSAEL. We aim to provide our students with a range of opportunities beyond the classroom to enrich their experiences and develop themselves as young people. We encourage them to arrange work experience and embark on volunteering, including the highly-regarded Duke of Edinburgh Award. Our students are given the opportunity to participate in a range of sports, and additionally the academy works with charities to develop the leadership and oracy skills of our young people. We do this in the hope that our students will become confident and successful adults who are able to pursue their dreams on the world stage.

From the start, we encourage our students to aim high. At the same time, we are proud of our pastoral care, which ensures that students are well supported throughout their post-16 journey. The aim is always to get the most out of every student.
