The common dedication to high standards and sincere academic interest is what I find most enjoyable about working at Harris Science Academy East London. There is a strong culture of purposeful learning here, where lessons are carefully planned around explicit skills and students are encouraged to think deeply about what they are doing and why they are doing it. This clarity of focus creates an environment in which students can thrive, because learning feels structured, intentional, and meaningful rather than rushed or superficial. Moreover, there is an overwhelming sense of community within the staff and students. HSAEL is more than just a place to work; it's a community where real progress is being achieved, enabling students to become leaders in their chosen fields in addition to learning.

As an English teacher, a key part of my role is helping students develop confidence in their analytical and critical writing. One of the things I really value about HSAEL’s teaching and learning processes is the emphasis on isolating and practising specific skills within each lesson. By breaking complex tasks into manageable chunks, students can steadily build mastery over time. This approach allows them to genuinely understand how to construct arguments, analyse language, and express ideas clearly, rather than simply producing work without fully grasping the underlying skills.

In addition to teaching in the classroom, I manage a Film Review Club for students who have a strong interest in films. Students get the chance to delve further into films through this group, which teaches them how to evaluate them critically and express their thoughts intelligibly. Seeing students gain confidence as they learn how to express their opinions, participate in debate, and use the analytical abilities they acquire in English classes to something they truly love has been immensely fulfilling. Opportunities such as these exemplify what I cherish most about HSAEL: a school that fosters critical thinking, curiosity, and a sincere love of learning.

Being part of a school that values both rigour and creativity makes teaching here highly rewarding, and it’s a privilege to contribute to a community that is so invested in student growth and success.
